Systems Engineer
Overview
The Cognizant System Engineer/Technical Authority (CSE/TA) is responsible for ensuring the operability, reliability, and configuration integrity of assigned plant systems. This role provides technical leadership, system expertise, and oversight for system health, performance, and maintenance activities in accordance with established Configuration Management standards. The CSE/TA collaborates closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical issues and implement system improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Cognizant System Engineer/Technical Authority for assigned systems, maintaining overall technical responsibility for system operability, reliability, and performance.
- Coordinate and execute configuration management activities, ensuring system documentation and technical baselines remain accurate and controlled.
- Prepare configuration control and design change packages; evaluate impacts of proposed modifications on safety authorization bases and facility operations.
- Conduct system health assessments, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and improvement activities.
- Apply specialized technical expertise to resolve complex system and equipment issues in collaboration with electrical, mechanical, and other engineering disciplines.
- Support maintenance activities by providing technical guidance, identifying system vulnerabilities, and recommending corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and plant operational procedures.
Position-Specific Requirements
Electrical Engineering Positions:
Requires strong knowledge of electrical systems, with preferred expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Manufacturing process equipment
- Industrial electrical equipment
- Facility electrical systems
- Electromagnetics
- Electrostatic discharge
- Lightning protection
Mechanical Engineering Positions:
Requires strong knowledge of electro-mechanical systems, with preferred expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Manufacturing process equipment
- Industrial mechanical equipment
- Facility mechanical systems
Qualifications
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant, direct engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience in configuration management, system engineering, or technical authority roles
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines
